2011 Summer Youth Employment Program
Now Accepting applications June 1- June 13th
The Region 2 Workforce Investment Board 2011 Summer Youth Employment Program is an employment program funded by more than $500,000 in funds from the Department Of Health Human Resource. The program will provide valuable work experience for 250 young adults in local jobs starting June 21, 2011 which in turn, will have an immediate financial impact on the local economy. Participants will have an opportunity to earn $7.50 an hour and work up to 30 hours a week for six weeks.
The Region 2 Summer Youth Employment Program will provide six weeks of work place behavior learning- rich subsidized work experience that offer youth an opportunity to participate in activities that:
- Are age appropriate
- Are designed to encourage the youth to take responsibility for their learning, Understand and manage their career options, Develop social skills and a maturity level that will help them interact positively with others;
- Help youth develop an understanding of employer expectations
- Expose youth to new experiences and new ideas Provide an opportunity for career awareness and exploration
- Enhance each youth's employability and work readiness skills through specialized work readiness.
- Workshops and paid work experience
Eligibility Criteria for Region 2 Summer Youth Employment Participants
- Must be between 14 and 21 years of age on the date you register for the program.
- Must be a US citizen or legal alien
- A resident of West Virginia and live in one of the counties below:
(Boone, Cabell, Wayne, Logan, Lincoln, Putnam and Mingo) - If you are male aged 18, you must meet Selective Service Requirements
- Family incomes must meet the 133% Federal Poverty Level.
Items required with application:
- Proof of age-birth certificate or driver's license or Photo I.D.
- Proof of Income-2010 tax return, copy of last 3 paychecks or proof of TANF recipient
- Social security card
- Age 14-17 youth need parent or guardian to sign application
- Proof of Selective Service Registration-Males 18 or over
- Proof of citizenship-Birth Certificate
- Proof of household size-2010 tax return
